The Dong Da Mound Festival (also known as the Dong Da Battle Commemoration) is held annually on the 5th day of the Lunar New Year. It is a major festival in Hanoi, attended by numerous Party and State leaders, and attracts a large number of people. The festival is held to honor and remember Emperor Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue, the brilliant military leader who led the Tay Son army to defeat 290,000 Qing invaders on the 5th day of the Year of the Rooster (1789).
